How is the Fiasp® formulation different from NovoLog® (insulin aspart) injection 100 U/mL?

Fiasp® is a formulation of insulin aspart—the same active ingredient in NovoLog® that is proven to help control blood sugar in adults and children with diabetes at mealtimes. A form of vitamin B3 (niacinamide), which speeds up how fast your body absorbs your Fiasp® dose to keep your insulin level stable, was added to create Fiasp®.

What is Fiasp® FlexTouch®?

Fiasp® FlexTouch® is a prefilled insulin device from Novo Nordisk. The Fiasp® FlexTouch® pen has been designed with no push-button extension and offers a click that you may hear or feel when your dose is delivered.c

cAfter the dose counter has returned to 0, keep the needle in the skin for 6 seconds before the needle is removed. If you do not, you may not have received your full dose and you should check your blood sugar levels more often because you may need more insulin. You may or may not hear an audible click at the end of the dose.

Do I need to use a new pen every time I dose?

While you don’t need to use a new pen for every dose, you should always use a new needle to help ensure sterility and prevent blocked needles. Do not store the pen with the needle attached. Storing without the needle attached helps prevent leaking, blocking of the needle, and air from entering the pen. Do not share your pen with other people even if the needle has been changed. You may give other people a serious infection or get a serious infection from them. See the full Instructions For Use.

What if I dial up the wrong dose on Fiasp® FlexTouch® before injecting?

If you select the wrong dose, you can turn the dose selector forward or backward to the correct dose.

What type of needles should I use with Fiasp® FlexTouch® or NovoPen Echo®?

Fiasp® pens are designed to work with all Novo Nordisk needles—NovoFine® Plus, and NovoFine®.

How long will Fiasp® last?

Unopened pens, PenFill® cartridges, PumpCart®, and vials that have been refrigerated (36°F to 46°F [2°C to 8°C]) can be kept until expiration date.

Unopened pens, PenFill® cartridges, and vials at room temperature (below 86°F [30°C]) can be kept for 28 days.

Opened pens and vials that have been kept at room temperature or refrigerated will last for 28 days.d

In-use (opened) PumpCart® may be kept at room temperature for 18 days.e Do not refrigerate PumpCart®.

dPenFill® cartridges in use (opened) must NOT be stored in the refrigerator.

eReplace the PumpCart® cartridge at least every 4 days, or according to the pump user manual, whichever is shorter, even if you have not used all of the insulin.

How do I discard my pens and needles?

Do not recap the needle. Recapping can lead to a needle stick injury. Remove the needle from the Fiasp® FlexTouch® after each injection and dispose of it in an FDA-cleared sharps container. Storing the pen without the needle attached helps prevent leaking, blocking of the needle, and air from entering the pen.

If you do not have a sharps container, carefully slip the needle into the outer needle cap. Safely remove the needle and throw it away as soon as you can.

Put used Fiasp® FlexTouch®, PenFill® cartridges, PumpCart®, and needles in an FDA-cleared sharps disposal container immediately after use.

Do not throw away (dispose of) loose needles, pens, or PenFill® cartridges in your household trash.

If you do not have an FDA-cleared sharps disposal container, you may use a household container made of heavy-duty plastic (like a detergent bottle).

Visit NovoCare.com to find out how to request a sharps disposal container.

How can I tell Fiasp® apart from my long-acting insulin that comes in a FlexTouch® pen?

The Fiasp® FlexTouch® has a red push button and cartridge to differentiate it from other FlexTouch® pens. Always check the insulin label before each injection to avoid accidental mix-ups between different insulin products.

Is Fiasp® approved for use in a pump?

Yes, Fiasp® is approved for use in a pump for adults and children with diabetes.

What is a pump?

An insulin pump is a small, programmable, battery-operated device that delivers a steady, measured amount of insulin under your skin.

How does Fiasp® work in pumps?

The pump releases a steady dose of Fiasp® throughout the day and mealtime doses when you eat. You just program the pump, following your doctor's and the pump maker’s instructions. See the Prescribing Information for instructions on how to use Fiasp® in an insulin pump.

Fiasp® should not be mixed with other insulins when it is used in the pump. Fiasp® should not be kept at temperatures higher than 98.6°F (37°C). The infusion set and the infusion set insertion site should be changed according to the manufacturer's user manual.
